Book Review: The Raventree Society by J.E. Purazzi

This actually isn’t a book. It’s an ingenious idea, really. J.E. Purrazzi has released a mini-series type of short stories. It gives the impression of being a TV series, with the stories called “episodes”.

I love them. The series is called The Raventree Society. The first four episodes have been released: The Strawberry Lane Hotel, The Haven, The Coal Mansion (my favorite!) and The Cleo (it comes out June 29th). Episode 5, the finale, is set to be released in a couple months.

They are ghost stories, but I’ll just say, they aren’t your typical ghost stories. Are they scary? Oh yes. Are they creepy? Definitely. But the characters are what makes this series shine. When I think of ghost stories, the first thing I DON’T think of is intricate, well-developed characters or impressive plot lines. But this series has them all.

The gist of the story (I won’t give away any spoilers, don’t worry) is set around a man named Kyle. He’s a paranormal investigator on a TV series called (you guessed it) the Raventree Society. His brother disappears, and the stories are set around Kyle trying to find him. Along the way, he runs into all manner of dangerous and scary situations. But that’s all I’ll say.

Seriously. Do yourself a favor and download these. They are only 99 cents each, and even if your not a fan of creepy, scary stuff, you’ll thank me later.

Book Review: The Weaver’s Blessing by Beth Wangler

Do you like fairy tales? Not the Brother’s Grimm type of dark stories, the kind you don’t even want your kids reading. No, this is the feel good, singing princesses with animals all around type of tale.

Beth Wangler, author of The Weaver’s Blessing, spins a story almost as good as a Disney movie. The chapters are short and sweet, the heroine is kind and compassionate, and the hero, although reluctantly, is actually a good man. The evil King and sorcerer curse the land, and only the princess can save it.

It’s quirky and fun. There’s a few stereotypes, and since it’s a fairy tale, I’m willing to overlook them. If you’re looking for something in-depth, you should probably find something else. But if your looking for a quick, fun read to escape reality for a while, this is your book. All in all, I enjoyed it. Check out Beth’s other works on her website.

Who doesn’t love book covers? If you don’t, well, you’re strange.

I don’t have the official cover yet… BUT I do have a sneak peak.

Isn’t Pol beautiful!? I might be biased. Maybe.

Not only does JE Purazzi write amazing dystopian novels, but she is an artist, too. Some people get all the talent!

Rise of the Warlock King comes out June 23rd. So the question is… who wants to read it first? For free? Yes, you read that right. I’m putting together a team of individuals who want to be my advanced readers. So basically, you get to read all my stuff for free before it is published. The only thing you have to do? Write a review of the product and post it on Amazon and Goodreads (if you are on Goodreads, that is.) Just comment on this post that you want to be a part, and I’ll send you a link to the book. For free. AND if you want to be a part of the team, but haven’t read Rift in the Deep, I’ll send that to you as well. So two free books, in exchange for a review. Sound like a deal?

If you don’t want to commit to a review, no worries. Just grab Rift in the Deep here, before Rise of the Warlock King is published. The Tale of Briton’s Fury, the novella, is on Amazon for 99 cents. OR if you want if for free, sign up for my mailing list.

See it, pays to have me as a friend. You get free books all the time.

It’s That Time

It’s a little strange saying this but…my book is now available in both E-book (also Kindle Unlimited) and print. Really? How is that possible? It’s a bit surreal, to be honest.

Something that only seemed a dim possibility, with months and months of hard work, has become reality. The dream that all writers have…you know the one. Publication. Holding your work in your hands. For indie authors, though, that is just the beginning. Now comes that hard part (at least for me.)

Marketing. Ugh. So with that being said, will you buy it? Write an honest review? Sign up for my email list? Maybe, with a little help from my friends (and readers!) I can hit the #1 spot. For the pre-order, I reached #43 in the Christian fantasy category, and somewhere in the 80’s and 70’s for two other categories. That being said, it’s loosely Christian fantasy, so anyone will enjoy it who enjoys good old epic fantasy. Or just a good story. So help a girl out. Thank you to everyone who has purchased it already. You’re the real heroes *fist bump*

The Raventree Society Review

So I love lauding other indie author’s work. I’ve already mentioned before that I really enjoy JE Purrazzi’s work. Her Sci-fi/dystopian thrillers are excellent. Check out Malfunction, or the free prequel novella Revelation.

The Raventree Society is a series of short stories in the supernatural/paranormal thriller genre. Now, I love me some Edgar Allen Poe. And “Strawberry Lane Motel” is right up that alley. Just enough suspense mixed with shivers down your spine, but the characters aren’t swallowed up in the story. Purrazzi doesn’t sacrifice character development and intricate dynamics for just the thrill of ghosts and spirits and fear. She seamlessly mixes both, to bring both a compelling story and relateable protagonists. Kyle Hanson is someone you could actually believe exists.

So head over to Amazon (or whatever other mediums you use) and scoop up a copy. Well worth the .99 and it will leave you wanting the next episode!

Freebie Fridays

One marketing strategy for indie authors is to offer free books or novellas.  I like to take advantage of this, not only to find new authors to enjoy, but to help boost their sales and participate in their success.

Here are some various freebies you might want to check out in the indie author world.

Revelation by J.E. Purrazzi.  This happens to be my critique partners debut novella, and I can’t have enough good things to say about it.  If you like dystopian science fiction, with both an adult and a YA feel, this on is for you.

The Crimson Queen by Alec Hutson is free for kindle unlimited subscribers.  This fantasy tale was everything I love about the genre (and I’m super picky when it comes to fantasy!)  Great plot, engaging characters, a well built world…looking forward to the rest of the series.

Darkness Reigns by Jill Williamson.  I’ve mentioned before that I am in the middle of the this series.  Her marketing strategy is excellent, for one thing.  Structured like a mini-series, the first book is free, and the next five are only a little over $3.  They are short, so you don’t feel like you get totally lost in the world.  But they are long enough that you don’t feel like you are being cheated.  Her strongest point, I think, is her incredibly endearing and interesting characters.

Enchantress by James Maxwell is free for kindle unlimited subscribers.  This was another good fantasy read.  The characters were pretty well-rounded, with maybe a little too much cliche for me, but that’s a minor complaint.  The world was unique, and the magic original.  I’m getting ready to read book two in the series.

The Traveler’s Gate Trilogy by Will Wight is free for kindle unlimited subscribers.  I can’t remember the last time I’ve read a series this unique.  The magic system is complicated and unusual, something I’ve never read, which is high praise in the fantasy world.  His characters are entertaining and compelling.  This was my introduction to the indie fantasy world, and he set the bar high.
